Volunteering at Balance Research
Balance Research is a voluntary organisation which looks into
policy issues relating to Transport and Telecommunications.
Transportation / Environment Projects
Issues involved include environmental economics, road
service costing, futurology of rail-based transport. Duties may
include a lot of reading; liaison with other researchers,
academics, transport organisations and transport users
(mainly businesses); and preparation of papers and reports.
Much of this work could be undertaken at the volunteer's
home, and at times to suit the individual.
Communications Project
Issues involved include loss of meaning in geographic (local)
telephone numbers under the present ACA plan, directory assistance
service expectations, back-up operator assistance when the network
is in trouble and others.
Duties may include a lot of reading; liaison with other researchers,
academics, telecom companies and authorities like ACA and ACCC,
and large and small users of communications, preparation of
papers and reports.
Much of this work could be undertaken at the volunteer's
home, and at times to suit the individual.
